  • 10 cloves of garlic - crushed or chopped
  • 2 chopped jalapeno peppers (or any combination of hot peppers)
  • zest and juice from 1 lemon
  • 1-2 tablespoons dried or fresh rosemary
  • 1 tablespoon chopped turmeric root or turmeric powder (I use turmeric from my *turmeric bug)
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne powder
  • raw apple cider vinegar (approximately 2 cups)

Instructions

  1. Place all but the vinegar in a quart size mason jar.
  2. Cover herbs and spices with vinegar.
  3. Allow 1-2 inches head room.
  4. Seal well.
  5. Store in a dark cool place for one month.
  6. Shake daily if possible.
  7. Strain using a cheesecloth or fine mesh strainer.
  8. A little goes a long way with this tonic. You can add some raw honey to help the medicine go down.

Fire Cider also goes by the name Master Tonic with wide recipe adaptability. Last winter it helped our family avoid several colds.

How to take Fire Cider

Try 1 teaspoon straight or dilute with filtered water.  Many find that a simple shot glass offers the right amount. Add a bit of raw honey for added benefit if desired. Fire Cider is safe for kids, but you may want to dilute.

You can take it daily throughout the winter from what I understand, or save it till you feel something coming on. Great question.

Thank you for sharing this with me – I don’t like dealing with a cold so I try to be very proactive in preventing them, but sometimes our bodies just get sick and we need a fast way to recover…. this is going on my healthy board for sure!

All winter long my older kids asked for the fire cider when they felt something coming on. I almost got sick once and this seemed to really help. Thanks for taking the time to comment, Joann!

Once the Fire Cider is done how do you store it? Just leave it in the cabinet or refrigerate?

I leave it out on a pantry shelf. It has kept for several months at a time.
