Superfudge: Sugar-free Superfood

Yum

October 23, 2014 by Andrea Fabry 5 Comments

My kids loved the book Superfudge when they were younger. Now they enjoy this creation chock full of nutrient-dense food.

Sugar-free Superfudge for ITT

The ideal ingredient is cacao paste, the least processed of raw cacao products. Cacao paste is more expensive but when creating something like superfudge it can be worth it. Amazon offers a nice selection of cacao paste.

If cacao paste is not an option, raw cacao powder can easily be combined with coconut oil and/or cacao butter and is included as an option in this recipe.

What makes this combination a superfood? Butter oil is rich in essential fatty acids and conjugated linoleic acid (CLA). It contains what Dr. Weston Price termed the “X-factor.” (Read more about Dr. Price’s research especially as it relates to dental health here.)

Fermented cod liver oil is rich in vitamins A and D and works synergistically with raw butter oil.

Feel free to add other superfoods like camu camu or apricot kernel seeds for an extra boost.

Options abound for adding nutrient-dense foods to this cacao based recipe. Consider green powders and flaxseed oil, camu powder or other superfoods.

*I like Green Pasture’s fermented cod liver oil. They offer a variety of flavors including orange, licorice and cinnamon. I prefer the orange flavor for this recipe.

I use Sunfood, but there are several out there. I also like Wilderness Family Naturals.

In your recipe for the SuperFudge it says Butter oil and cod liver oil, that you favor the orange flavor. The link on Amazon takes it to that company, but it looks like it is in capsules. Is that correct? Do you buy the Butter oil with cod liver oil, and buy the fermented cod liver oil orange flavor and use both in this recipe? Sorry, after looking at the link and seeing your pic above, it’s hard to tell which ones are the ones you’re talking about. I want to make sure I get the right ingredients. Thanks so much!

I actually buy from Radiant Life and they carry it in liquid orange. I haven’t tried using capsules. You could easily do the butter oil/cod liver oil combination! I think that sounds easiest. It’s completely up to you as far as taste what works. It only takes a bit to boost the recipe so there’s no wrong way to do it from my experience. Here’s the link to the orange:
