DIY Gift – Luxury Beauty Balm

Yum

November 10, 2014 by Andrea Fabry 14 Comments

Do you enjoy giving homemade gifts? Looking for a simple, yet luxurious natural gift? This formula makes a wonderful teacher’s gift, Mother’s Day gift, Christmas gift, or a gift to yourself!  The recipe can be adapted to a variety of essential oils. Try this DIY Luxury Beauty Balm!

Create this luxurious beauty balm. Ideal gift for a friend or family member or yourself!

DIY Beauty Balm

This recipe can be adapted using a variety of plant-based butter and oils. The addition of frankincense and myrrh makes it uniquely luxurious and beneficial. No wonder the wise men prized these oils! I use this blend for my face and body.

Frankincense:

Frankincense is extracted from the gum or resin of the Boswellia tree. Frankincense is highly therapeutic, useful for mood balancing, immune boosting and skin care. It is perfect for this skin softening recipe!

Myrrh

Myrrh is extracted from the resin of the Commiphora plant and helps with hormonal balance, overall well-being, and skin care.

I love the scent of this combination, but feel free to add another oil such as lavender or sandalwood. I would describe this combination as earthy and woodsy.  I let the frankincense dominate by doubling the amount.

Ingredients

  • 12 tablespoons plant butter (I use 6 tablespoons shea butter and 6 tablespoons avocado butter.)
  • 4 tablespoons oil (coconut oil works well or a combination of coconut, jojoba and olive oil.)
  • 20 drops frankincense oil
  • 10 drops myrrh oil
  • 10 drops lavender or other oil of choice (optional)

Instructions

  1. Gather supplies.
  2. Place butter and oil in mixing bowl.
  3. Begin the whipping process.
  4. Stop when you have achieved desired consistency. This takes several minutes at least.
  5. Add essential oil before distributing cream to containers.

I use 50 ml *Miron violet cosmetic glass jars, but 4-ounce mason jars will work. (See Miron Violet Glass.) Have fun with the labels – metallic gold labels are available and would work well to complete the gift of gold, frankincense and myrrh if you’re giving for Christmas.

Wondering about essential oils? Look for pure; unadulterated essential oils with no additives. Always feel free to ask questions before buying. (I like Rocky Mountain Oils and rareEARTH Naturals.)

*Miron violet is a unique glass which blocks damaging UV rays while allowing beneficial ones. Learn more about it in the previous post Miron Violet Glass.

I’m feeling a little dense right now. The beauty balm sounds wonderful and is a great gift potential. But is it for body and face or just for body? Thanks for your patience.

      Barbara,
That’s a great question! I will clarify in the post – but I have used it for my face and body. I know others have done the same.

This sounds just wonderful and best of all EASY! Just curious though…using the 50ML size jars as suggested, how many jars will the recipe fill/make? I would like to make this for my family’s gift exchange this Christmas. Thanks!

This is a great question, Michelle. It will fill at least 8 jars – maybe 10! It’s super easy.

I have Shea and Cocoa Butter on hand, can the Cocoa Butter replace the Avocado and get same results, or should I really just get some Avocado Butter? I really want to make some of this!
